We’re going to CUBA!!

We got to Miami and can’t wait to arrive in Havana! If money were no object, it would’ve been great to fly direct from Boston (pro-tip: JetBlue flies direct as of December 2018).

When you get to Miami (or, if you fly direct, at your home airport), visit the Cuba Ready kiosk at the boarding gate.

The airlines give you a 4 hour layover so you have time to get through the VISA process before your connecting flight to Havana so you have time to get your VISA/Travel Card.

Either we lucked out, or 4 hours is far too long – we deplaned and walked to our new gate where we found the Cuba Ready kiosk. The Cuba Ready website said it can take up to 3 hours to get your paperwork.

We were second in line at the kiosk – 5 minutes and $200 later we had our VISAs! The VISA is the blue and pink form (below), and we had to have the VISA and the Customs forms filled out before he deplaned in Havana. We weren’t asked any questions like why we were going to Cuba or which travel category we were traveling under.

We could have ordered the VISA through Cuba Ready prior to our trip for $75 per VISA, but the website says explicitly that they’re not responsible if the VISA gets lost in the mail. We decided to play it safe, and besides the extra cost, it was worth it since the process at the airport was so easy.
